Passover Memories
When I was a child, I recall the anticipation of family gatherings this time of year – assembling at my “Mom-Moms” house in Overbrook Park where she somehow managed to fit 25 guests into her small rowhome around the beautifully set Seder table complete with my great grandmother’s treasured Seder plate and silver candle stick holders. I remember how good it felt to be with family, telling stories, laughing and enjoying one another’s company despite the small space. A few years have passed since then and I still get to enjoy and witness the anticipation of family coming together around the Seder table here at Federation Housing (FH). The residents who proudly call one of our properties their HOME – come together in our beautiful community rooms and enjoy the company of friends and family around a delicious Seder meal. Passover prayers are led by our own Rabbi Sandi Berliner who makes her way to each and every FH location to conduct Seder and share the stories of Passover often accompanied by a grandchild of a resident who is tasked with finding that infamous piece of matzah – the Afikomen. Imagine being isolated and alone on Passover. No family nearby, No reason to get dressed, No Passover celebration to attend. FH sadly witnesses these unfortunate moments in a senior’s life and prides itself on taking action to ensure each and every resident has the opportunity to be with friends and family- celebrating the holiday- smiling at the mere thought of enjoying a meal with others.
