“Meet a Mensch” Bernard Roth has proudly served on the Federation Housing board for over 30 years and is one of many long-standing board members serving much of his years on our Building Maintenance/Facilities Committee. “Bernie” as he is known among his friends and colleagues has worn many volunteer hats throughout his life serving in various board leadership capacities including Golden Slipper, Uptown Home, Philadelphia Geriatric Center (PGC), Har Zion Temple, Akiba Hebrew Academy, Jewish National Fund among others. Dear Friends: The Holiday of Passover begins for the Jewish community on Friday night, April 19. This festival of freedom celebrates the rights to the religious and cultural observances of all people. One of the most beautiful aspects of this holiday is the paragraph in the Haggadah, the book of the Passover Seder ritual which says: “Let all who are hungry, come and eat, let all who are needy come celebrate the Passover holiday with us.” These words acknowledge that all are included and welcome to participate in this festival. Fairy Tail Acres Pig Rescue Visit

The residents of Ephraim Goldstein Apartments, along with clients from Abramson Adult Day Center, were surprised to see two pigs from Fairy Tail Acres stride into the building on a wintry January 2019. Charlie and Franklin, the two rescue pigs that now reside at Fairy Tail Acres, were delighted to show-off their skills and personality to an enthusiastic audience. In addition to learning about the role of Fairy Tail Acres as a rescue shelter for pigs and other animals, residents were able to see the pigs perform tricks such as playing the piano, sitting, laying down and turning around. Interview: Marci: What amazing memories have you experienced during your lifetime? Hilda: I have two childhood friends who are 100 and 98 years- we have been friends since we were kids. Building News - Sidewater Apartments

Beginning in May 2018, Sidewater Apartments began extensive renovations and upgrades throughout its campus. We are pleased to report that this large undertaking is mostly completed. The highlights include upgrades to the bathrooms and kitchens in all apartments, new paint and flooring in the corridors, offices, community room, kitchen, lounge, computer center, laundry room and library/TV room. Upgraded emergency call systems and fire alarm systems were installed along with a new shingle roof, new HVAC units, retrofitting of all common area and exterior lighting with LED lights, power washing the concrete site walls and cleaning the building façade. Federation Housing’s residents were thrilled to participate in the Passover Seder hosted by Golden Slipper and held at Keneseth Israel synagogue on April 7, 2019.
